Wave: asynchronous content free message

Wave: send a message to the receiver that only contains the senders identity - no content - the meaning is context dependent, may be influenced by ui(the change from poke to wave), or subverted by users.

Mapping: UI element where a user provide asynchronous signal to a recipient of their attention. Is sent and received .
Examples: Wave on Facebook (replaced ‘poke’)

By presence indicator, I thought you mean the concept in Slack (eg) which shows a user as online or away. But then isn’t it synchronous by its very nature?

I was thinking of the async version in Facebook, where you wave to a user.

The presence/status indicator in slack is a different concept .
